Nutrition is an important part of managing diabetes. People with diabetes can enjoy the same foods as those who do not have diabetes. Diabetes is managed by keeping blood sugar under control and as close to normal as possible. Good nutrition is a very important part of diabetes management.
Diabetes is classified into type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes is a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin, a hormone needed to allow sugar (glucose) to enter cells to produce energy. Type 2 diabetes is non-insulin dependent diabetes and a chronic condition that impacts the way our body metabolizes sugar (glucose), an important source of fuel for our body. Under this condition, our body either resists the effects of insulin, or does not produce enough insulin to maintain a normal glucose level.
